A tattooed arm reaches down, a single red thread wound loosely around the fingers and trailing off into empty space, its other end nowhere in sight. The red thread of fate, in Asian folklore, connects two people bound to find each other no matter the distance between them. This painting sits with the harder question underneath that myth: what if the thread simply isn't there. What if no one is on the other end.
